映画「スーパーマンIII電子の要塞」(原題Superman III)は、クリストファー・リーヴが主演の1983年につくられたアメリカ映画です。

巨大複合企業ウェブスコー社は同属で珈琲豆の国際カルテルを形成し価格操作をしています。オーナー社長であるロス・ウェブスターは、自由競争を主張するコロンビアが気に入りません。そんな時、社内に8万5000ドルの横領事件が発生します。給与計算職員ガス・ゴーマンがコンピュータ・プログラムを改ざんし端数をネコババしていたのです。ロスはガスを呼び出し、罪を咎めない代わりに、気象衛星をハッキングしてコロンビアに異状気象を起こすよう命じます。

ハッキングは成功しコロンビアに暴風や豪雨が発生します。次に、ロスは原油価格操作を目論みますが、コロンビアの珈琲豆栽培農園がスーパーマンの活躍により救済されていたことを知ります。怒り心頭のロスはスーパーマン殺害を企てます。宇宙に残留する元クリプトン星の塵を分析してクリプトナイトを合成するようガスに命じます。ガスはペンタゴンの軍人に変装してクリプトナイトの塊を記念品と偽りスーパーマンに進呈して暗殺を試みます。

合成クリプトナイトに被曝しダメージを負ったスーパーマンは荒んだ心を持つブラック・スーパーマンへと病変してしまいます。その姿を見た少年リッキーはスーパーマンに励ましの言葉を叫び続けます。その声援はブラック・スーパーマンの心に響き、もがき苦しむ身体から良心の化身であるクラーク・ケントが離脱します。クラークは、殺意に満ちたブラック・スーパーマンの蛮行に耐えに耐え、最後に打ち勝って本来のスーパーマンの姿を取り戻します。

ロスはガスに採掘中の油田ポンプを停止させ、海上にいるタンカーすべてを大西洋の真ん中に集め停泊させるよう命じます。日頃からロスの命令に辟易としていたガスは見返りとして自分の設計するスーパーコンピュータを願望します。それは敵の弱点を自動解析し攻撃する戦闘能力を備えた最強コンピュータです。ロスは、己の欲望を叶えるためスーパーコンピュータの構築を約束します。やがて、完成したコンピュータはまさに究極の電子要塞であり、ガスの意図とは裏腹にスーパーマン殺害の兵器として使用されていきます。
